Galileo Offline Maps

When we started our trip in Switzerland we simply entered “Athens” into our Navigation System and three days later we were in Greece. And that was pretty much it with our Navi. Entering Turkey we were already out of maps and we actually never really thought about how we would navigate anywhere east from that. So we drove trough Turkey and our iPad was pretty much just a huge music player anymore.

Being quite annoyed by the lack of maps and refusing to buy expensive and obsolete paper maps I started browsing the app store for offline map solutions or navis which include our planned route through Iran, Pakistan and India.

These days we are pleased to announce the release of the new 2.1.2 version of Galileo Offline Maps. What does the new version bring?

Mobile Atlas Creator (MOBAC) is a free software that allows to download maps from a lot of map sources, and save them in the format used by Galileo Offline Maps. It is working on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

If you use Google Earth or Google Maps, you’re probably familiar with the KML file format, that is used to store geographic information like bookmarks and GPS tracks. Since version 2.1 you can easily import your KML files into Galileo Offline Maps app in several ways.

These days we’re thrilled to be able to share the new version 2.1 of Galileo Offline Maps with you. This version brings so many new features and improvements, it’s hard to make a choice to highlight the most remarkable ones, but lets try.

Galileo Offline Maps iOS application aggregates data from many different map sources and presents it in an easy to use format. We’ve been using the OpenStreetMaps (OSM) as online map source available for caching since the first day of app. This is the short guide how to act when you find some errors on the maps based on OpenStreetMap data.

There may be times when you don’t have an Internet connection on your mobile device while travelling, but you still want access to a maps you’ve used to browse online on your computer. Now you can create offline maps from almost any custom map service and easily upload them into Galileo Offline Maps app.

Thanks to the activity of our users new version 2.0.3 provides fixes for reported bugs in the latest versions of Galileo Offline Maps app.

When we launched Galileo Offline Maps app it was available in two languages: English and Russian. Today we are proud to announce that the latest version 2.0.2 of Galileo Offline Maps is now available in four additional languages: Japanese, German, Spanish and Italian. Both our interface and iTunes description have been translated, and we hope that it will break the language barrier for a lot of our users from Japan, Germany, Spain and Italy.

Now we’re looking for volunteer translators to and from all imaginary languages from our large and growing community of users to help us.

Galileo Offline Maps currently have upwards of 50,000 active users from all over the World. Not so few!

Based on data from Google Analytics embedded in app we have some interesting details about where and how people are using it. Let us to share that information with you.

In previous version 2.0 of Galileo Offline Maps app the zoom levels related bug appeared. Version 2.0.1 fixes this upsetting bug together with some other minor problems.

“Bookmarks” feature is a great extension for Galileo Offline Maps app, which makes work with maps much more effective. Drop pins on map and save search results to view them later. It’s also an easy way to share with your friends your current location or places you’ve visited on vacation.

As many have already noticed, new version 2.0 of Galileo Offline Maps app appeared in the AppStore this week. This update brings some killer usability improvements and several new features, including the long-awaited “GPS Track Recording” feature.
Thanks to our active users Galileo Offline Maps app becomes more assertive and easy to use with every new version.
